Guffey

Great Horned Owl

Guffey’s story starts months before she arrived at the Raptor Center. We believe that Guffey may have been stepped on by one of her older siblings in the nest, breaking bones in her right wing. This injury healed in the wild, and unfortunately did not heal well, leaving Guffey unable to lift when she flies.

Still, Guffey fledged and began her young, wild life. Since she was not able to lift very high off the ground in flight, Guffey ran into the side of a car while crossing a road, leaving her with a minor concussion.

She stayed at the Raptor Center for a few months to give her a chance at improving her flight ability, but it did not improve, so Guffey became an ambassador. This gentle-natured girl officially joined our team in 2011.
