Great Horned Owl
Guffey flew into a car near the town of Guffey, Colorado. She was admitted to our Raptor Center as a youngster with a mild head concussion. Further examination revealed an old wing injury that had left her with poor flight ability. The wing was probably injured while she was in the nest, possibly when one of her older siblings stepped on her. After Guffey recovered from her head injury, she was placed in our flight cage for several months to see if exercise would help her flight ability. Time revealed no improvement and it was determined she would not be able to return to the wild. Guffey joined our education staff in the autumn of 2011 and has quickly become a favorite at the programs and events she attends.
