AVAS Bird Walks

On the fourth Saturday of each month, the Arkansas Valley Audubon Society (AVAS) sponsors and hosts a public bird walk in partnership with the NWDC at the River Campus. Here are public records about each event including the number of participants and the bird species that were identified.

European Starling

March 23, 2024 AVAS Bird Walk

On the morning of March 23, 2024, twenty-four bird walk participants saw or heard a total of 22 different bird species.

Canyon Towhee

February 24, 2024 AVAS Bird Walk

On the morning of Friday 24, 2024 at the NWDC River Campus along the Arkansas River, 24 participants observed a total of 17 bird species.

Redwing Blackbird

January 27, 2024 AVAS Bird Walk

On the crisp, cold Saturday morning of January 27, 2024, a total of 15 participants identified 30 species of birds at the NWDC River Campus.

Common Goldeneye

December 23, 2023 AVAS Bird Walk

On December 23, 2023, 11 participants saw or heard 17 bird species. It was a very cool but dry and calm morning along the river.

Belted Kingfisher

October 28, 2023 AVAS Bird Walk

On October 28, 2023, 13 participants saw 14 bird species. Weather was sunny from 35 to 38 degrees Fahrenheit temperature range.

Pied-billed Grebe

September 23, 2023 AVAS Bird Walk

On September 23, 2023, 18 participants saw 22 bird species and one frog in the river. We had great weather – 60 to 70 degrees mostly sunny.

Muscovy Duck

August 26, 2023 AVAS Bird Walk

On August 26, 2023, 12 people participated in the bird walk at the NWDC-River Campus on an overcast, humid day.
