OR Meet Lake Pueblo State Park and the Colorado Lottery for activities at the Anticline Pond. Let's celebrate the New Year and get outside!

First Day Hike!

In partnership with Lake Pueblo State Park and the Colorado Lottery
12pm-3pm

Self Guided Hike at the Pueblo River Campus!

Start the Year off on the Right Foot!

Take the first step towards a healthy lifestyle by getting outdoors and enjoying a First Day Hike. The Nature and Wildlife Discovery Center, Lake Pueblo State Park and the Colorado Lottery are teaming up to offer a family fun First Day Hike. Participants may either begin/end at the Nature and Wildlife Discovery Center or begin/end at Anticline Pond at Lake Pueblo State Park.

The hike follows the River Trail along the Arkansas River, with little elevation change and beautiful views!

Refreshments, interactive stations, Bird of Prey Meet & Greets and a scavenger hunt will be available along the approximately 3 mile trail (6 miles round trip).

Prizes & Stations:
Participants will have the opportunity to win prizes by participating in the self-guided hike. Everyone is a winner if you visit the stations along the trail!

 

Stop by the Colorado Lottery booth at the Anticline Pond for a chance to win prizes here, too!

Bird of prey meet and greet at the NWDC main riverfront building.

The Hike itself is free, but consider donating to the Nature and Wildlife Discovery Center to feed a raptor for a day! We and the birds appreciate your support and wish you the happiest of holidays!Feed a Raptor for a Week

 

Hike Difficulty: Beginner-Moderate

  • For those in fairly good hiking condition.
  • Trails are generally in good condition but do have rocky sections.
  • Mileage (6 miles round trip 3 miles one way)
  • Moderate elevation gain.
  • Bring the whole family!!
  • Check the weather and dress accordingly.

*Please make sure you have a water bottle and a snack.
