Welcome to the website for Mountain Park Environmental Center (MPEC)! We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to providing programming in order to create a citizenry that understands, respects, enjoys and cares for themselves, their families, their community, and the natural world. We manage the 611-acre Pueblo Mountain Park for the City of Pueblo, along with the historic 14,000-square-foot Horseshoe Lodge, providing an environment for the citizens of southern Colorado to experience, learn about, and ultimately protect and preserve the natural world. We also offer programs for all ages throughout the year, from toddlers to adults. From summer camps to Nature Toddlers, yoga classes and guided hikes, MPEC offers something year-round for the whole family. One of our award-winning programs is Earth Studies, a year-long outdoor science program in partnership with Pueblo City Schools. Earth Studies allows all 1,200 fifth-graders from Pueblo public schools to experience local habitats and gain scientific knowledge in an applied, natural environment. The Horseshoe Lodge at MPEC is the perfect overnight facility for group retreats and quiet getaways. Surrounded by towering hundred year old pines, the historic Horseshoe Lodge is a true escape from the hectic pace, busyness, and bustle of our busy lives. Built in the 1930s by WPA crews, the Lodge has been lovingly and tastefully renovated into an eco-lodge, making it an ideal place to comfortably experience Nature's peace and wonder. |
