13th Annual Pueblo Mountain Park Butterfly Count

This excursion is less of a hike and more of a saunter that stays primarily on our park roads with one goal – searching for butterflies. This is the 13th Annual Butterfly Count in the Mountain Park, guided by Mark Yaeger of the Arkansas Valley Audubon Society. No experience is necessary. Bring close-focus binoculars and/or a digital camera if you have them (although they are not necessary) and be ready to see some of the park’s prettiest fluttering residents.

Mark Yaeger is an avid birder and often guides birding hikes in the Pueblo area. Mark’s knowledge of butterflies rivals his knowledge of birds and he brings this knowledge to the Mountain Park Campus each summer for our Annual Butterfly Count. Mark, known as Radeaux, is also a gifted artist who paints the fauna of his native Colorado. His life sized images of birds and other animals are not merely idealized illustrations but explore the patterning and geometrics found in nature.
