**Please check your availability before applying, and call if you have any questions.  You must be available for staff training (June 7th) and Mountain Adventure Camp July 25th-29th, at least two of the following overnight camps (June 14th-16th, June 21st-23rd, June 28th-30th, July 12th-14th, August 2nd-4th). – If you are also interested in working some of our day camps, please indicate so on your application. 

Minimum Age: 21 years of age, preferably a college junior
Terms of Employment: Overnight-Camp Head Counselors are contracted per summer camp and will make between $300-$400 per camp.

 Responsibilities:
The primary responsibility of a Head Counselor is to ensure the physical safety and emotional well-being of campers in their care.

 For our 3 day out-of-camp backcountry wilderness trips (Greenhorn and Survival): Counselors must be physically capable of leading challenging trips in the wilderness, and must be interested in and/or knowledgeable about basic outdoor skills such as topographic map reading, outdoor cooking, backpacking techniques, minimum impact camping, etc. While counselors do not need to be knowledgeable in all areas of our wilderness program, some experience is essential. Staff training will fill in the gaps.

For Mission Wolf: Counselors  must be interested in and/or knowledgeable about basic outdoor skills such as topographic map reading, outdoor cooking,minimum impact camping, etc. While counselors do not need to be knowledgeable in all areas of our wilderness program, some experience in camping is essential. For Mountain Adventure Residential Camp: For this week long residential camp, some  activities include (but are never limited to) day hikes, field games, arts & crafts, rock climbing, ropes/challenge course, environmental activities, campfires, music, and more!  We utilize the our camp staff’s individual talents and passions when planning out camp activities, so  the strength of our program lies in their creativity, enthusiasm, initiative, and caring. These qualities allow the flexibility within our program to adjust to the specific needs of each individual at camp, camper or staff. We will do our planning for the camps during Staff Training. Creativity and enthusiasm are a must!

Overnight-Camp Head Counselors are asked to consistently provide positive, creative, and meaningful direction to the young lives with which they are entrusted, within the mission of the Mountain Park Environmental Center. It is imperative that they be able to support established camp policies and promoted programs. Counseling rewards proportionate to what is given.

ALL Overnight- Camp Head Counselors must be CPR and First Aid Certified prior to the start of camps. Priority goes to those who have a current Wilderness First Aid certification or higher.
