The Horseshoe Lodge is the perfect place to retreat into the beauty and simplicity of Nature. Surrounded by towering hundred year old pines, the historic Horseshoe Lodge is a true escape from the hectic pace, busyness, and bustle of our busy lives. Built in the 1930s by WPA crews, the Lodge has been lovingly and tastefully renovated into an eco-lodge, making it an ideal place to comfortably experience Nature’s peace and wonder.

yoga retreat Mountain Park Environmental CenterNestled in a 611-acre mountain park and bordered by a 17,000 acre San Isabel National Forest roadless area, a stay in the lodge offers access to the park’s 3 miles of unpaved roads for walking, 6 miles of trails for hiking, and connection to many more miles of National Forest trails. At an altitude of nearly 7000′ in southeastern Colorado’s Wet Mountains, the area boasts a rich and unique ecology of native plants, migrant and resident songbirds, wildlife, plus lots of blue skies, sunshine, and Milky Way nights.

These all combine to make a stay at the Horseshoe Lodge a place to rejuvenate, explore, adventure, reflect, or just be with yourself, with others, with Nature.

Note that the Horseshoe Lodge at MPEC is a retreat and educational facility. As such, guests for wedding parties and groups attending Pavilion weddings are expected to adhere to Lodge rules that do not allow loud, disruptive, or drunken behavior when in and around the Horseshoe Lodge.

  • Individual rooms are available for overnight and multi-day stays by individuals, couples, and families. Well behaved, supervised children are most welcome.
  • The Horseshoe Lodge Retreat Center is also available as a rental for your group’s retreat or gathering. Along with our 11 overnight rooms (sleep up to around 30 total), we have several multipurpose rooms, break-out rooms, a massage therapy room, and a full-service kitchen that serves delicious, healthy meals.
  • Each of the 11 overnight rooms at Horseshoe Lodge is different and includes furnishings and artistic touches that reflect a Nature connection.
  • Four of the rooms have private bathrooms with showers; the other 7 rooms share 4 common baths complete with showers. Note that the shared baths are used by just one person at a time and so you do have bathroom/ showering privacy.
  • The Horseshoe Lodge is a 4-season facility with hiking, biking, birding, wildlife watching, sauntering, and, weather permitting, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing right outside the door. We have lots of snowshoes to rent.
  • Horseshoe Lodge is part of the award-winning Mountain Park Environmental Center, a non-profit environmental education organization complete with a Nature Shop and Interpretive Center featuring hands-on displays on the natural and cultural history of the area.
